Dr Lise Thouvenot
Research interests
I am particularly interested in plant biology, community ecology and biological invasions. My research aims to identify the response mechanisms of plant organisms and communities to their environment. More precisely, I study how the survival and the development of plants, as well as the structure of plant communities are affected by abiotic constraints and biotic interactions (like global change, stress and disturbances, invasive species) in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. To do this, my work integrates different ecological scales from plant species-specific physiological and morphological traits to populations to plant communities and uses a combination of field observations, mesocosms and microcosms experiments and meta-analyses.
Currently, my postdoc aims to elucidate how invasive exotic earthworms affect plant functional traits and diversity. As a model system, I am using earthworm-free regions of North America, where earthworms by modifying physical and chemical soil properties place a novel environmental filter on plant communities.
In my previous works, I studied the responses of invasive aquatic plants to different abiotic factors (e.g. light intensity, salinity or water depth), but also to biotic interactions (e.g. competition and herbivory) to understand invasive species survival, development and establishment in native ecosystems.
