IPBES workshop on scenario development in Leipzig

This week, iDiv is hosting a workshop of the IPBES scenarios and modelling group in Leipzig. More than 40 scientists, NGO and government representatives and other stakeholders from all over the world participate in the workshop. They discuss the utility of IPBES scenarios, the challenges that have prevented their widespread use in the past, and evaluate existing methodologies for scenario analysis and modelling of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Building on the methodological assessment report on scenarios and models, the group will develop ways how existing methods and tools can be matched with current and future needs of policy- and decision-makers to increase the chance of successfully achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The IPBES scenarios workshop takes place from 3 to 7 October. It is hosted by Henrique M. Pereira, Professor at iDiv and the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) established the IPBES Scenario and Modelling Expert Team in 2016 to develop future scenarios for improving today’s decision-making.
