Symposium on Biodiversity Economics

iDiv is in the process of strengthening its expertise in the field of biodiversity economics. The international symposium was an important step in this process, helping to identify hot topics in this transdisciplinary field of integrative biodiversity research. Presentation topics at the symposium ranged from measuring ecosystem services valuation in developing countries to assessing the economic insurance value of biodiversity. Symposium host Prof. Henrique M. Pereira (iDiv/MLU) was deeply satisfied with the outcome: “The symposium really illustrated the benefits of cross-fertilisation between scientific disciplines. By bringing together ecologists and economists, we move forward not only biodiversity research at the interface between the fields, but also ecological research and economics research themselves.”
