Dr. Lori Shapiro [North Carolina State University] - Global Change in our Gardens
Potatoes in Ireland, tomatoes in Italy, and cucumbers in America: How did these familiar, delicious plants colonize the world? Is this global plant movement consequence free? To answer these questions, this project integrates chemical ecology, plant-insect evolution, and microbial genomics to explore the unintentional consequences of global crop plant movement on co-evolved species interactions, and, ultimately agricultural sustainability
