Martin Quaas gave inaugural lecture for his new iDiv professorship The sustainable use of natural resources not only protects biodiversity but also pays off economically in the longer term. This was the conclusion drawn by Prof. Martin Quaas during his inaugural lecture on 15 Mai at the Faculty of Economics and Management Science at Leipzig University. Since 1 October 2018, Quaas has been heading the Biodiversity Economics research group, one of the nine core senior research groups at the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv). Quaas’ research focuses on the interactions between the economy and biodiversity of primarily marine ecosystems. Quaas, who previously worked at Kiel University, focuses on socio-economic processes in the North and Baltic Sea and, among other things, on the question, which economic incentives for fishermen are most effective for the recovery of fish stocks.
